Voodoo Religion

Voodoo - The Religion
When one simply mentions Voodoo the image of a Doll with Pins in it comes to mind. This is not what it is . Voodoo has nothing to do with Satanism or with the making of zombies. What Voodoo religion has to do with is a deep belief that all is one the connection to one’s ancestors. The deep concerns for day to day well being.
If one looks to Voodoo as a religion one will find its one of the oldest said to be 10,000 years old or older. It originated in Africa and during the slave migrations a lot of it landed in Haiti. From there Voodoo spread to the regions of North and South Americas and the Philippines, and Caribbean.
It is a family religion. It is one of music and dance and of course ritual. There is a form of priesthood to Voodoo open to both sexes. The main function is in healings and the clearing and calming of Spirits. Too it goes into the areas of readings and spells. Not unlike many other faiths. The spells are from LOVe to the other end Death.
The Voodoo Doll is used to represent a specific person. Like all things the Doll is the tool it’s the person doing the act that holds that power. To use the Doll to cast Good or Evil intentions. It is used to bring in the influence of Spirits.
Voodoo means “Spirit of God “. To the Voodoo religion there is one God. Loa that rules over the World and matters of family, LOVe, happiness, justice and revenge.
It might well have been the Western cultures that pained a more negative image on Voodoo that there really is. Like all faiths there is a GOOD and EVIL side to all things. It is where one choose to walk that defines the path of their Religion.

Voudon (Voodoo) is a very old African tribal belief that has blended a lot with Catholicism, equating certain Catholic saints with ancestral and otherworldly spirits. You're very correct that western cultures have vilified it to some degree, because of it's unfamiliarity Hollywood jump upon it and made a movie genre out of some of the aspects. Voodoo is a very interesting spiritual tradition with many fascinating facets, for sure.
